At a time of educational reforms the ex-grammar school teachers try desperately to recreate the atmosphere of an elitist academic establishment favouring their former pupils while steadfastly ignoring the influx of ex-secondary modern school teachers and their pupils. The place is divided both in the classroom and in the staff room. What the Head Master needs is an exit strategy.
