The Fourth Annual AIA Milwaukee Emerging Professionals Design Competition, Wells Street Station, focused
upon a long vacant building and lot in the heart of downtown Milwaukee. The site is immediately adjacent
to one of the cityÕs main waterways and in the core of the cityÕs Theater District. Many proposals have
surfaced over the years for the site, but none of them transpired so this prime site in downtown remains
vacant. This yearÕs competition seeks to provide viable options for the development of the site.
The competition committee was very excited to partner with the propertyÕs current owner to present this
yearÕs competition. This partnership was a first for this competition and was instrumental in its success.
This yearÕs objectives were derived after conversations with the buildingÕs owner and thus added a new level
of realism to the competition which previously didnÕt exist.
