The inspiration for this exhibition, Women Waiting by the Sea & The Settlement Series Iceland IV, came when artist and filmmaker G. Scott MacLeod discovered that his Hebridean Scottish ancestors have a connection through the genetic disposition of Icelander women. At the National Museum of Iceland their research states that 62% of Icelandic women have Scottish and Irish DNA, where as Icelandic men have 80% Scandinavian DNA. During his June 2017 & July 2018 SIM artist residency in Reykjavik, Iceland, he created this series of contŽ and charcoal drawings. This exhibition is intended to illustrate the the cross-cultural links between his various heritages from Norway and Scotland and how they are connected to the settlement period of Iceland.
