When Woody moved from the cartoons to the comics, he became a bit more settled, a bit more domestic. Often accompanied by Splinter and Knothead (his niece and nephew), Woody was a part of the community - - a kinder, gentler woodpecker than in his early cartoons, where a mallet was the weapon of choice and the laughter was more sadistic than joyous. But this happier Woody is just as much fun and alongside his many friends including Wally Walrus, Andy Panda, Chilly Willy, Oswald Rabbit and so many others, he appeared in hundreds of comics.
