Drawing on historical archives, photographs, and newspaper accounts, The Big Yellow House chronicles the history of the building at 111 W. Congress St. in Charles Town from its beginnings as a private home, through its service as a local hospital, to its present role as the headquarters for APUS. By detailing the house and its inhabitants, the book recounts the story of Charles Town and Jefferson County. The second edition includes a Foreword by Dr. Wallace E. Boston, President and CEO of APUS, describing the care with which the University has restored many of the historic buildings in Charles Town as well as efforts to develop green buildings throughout the town.
